Baptist church shocked with the decision to baptize the suspect Abdul Ezedi, who earlier this year injured 12 people in a chemical attack in London, despite his sexual offenses.

Abdul Ezedi claimed he converted to Christianity in order to convince Home Office officials to allow him to stay in the UK.

Recent documents show that Ezedi illegally entered the UK in 2016 and joined the Grange Road Baptist Church the same year.

Photos released on Tuesday show Ezedi handing out religious leaflets to passersby in Newcastle.

The Baptist church fought to allow Ezedi to stay in the country.

Recall that in the attack in central London on January 31, Ezedi threw a corrosive substance, injuring 12 people, including two children. He was reportedly in a relationship with a mother whom he sprayed along with her two daughters.

Police launched a nationwide manhunt for the 35-year-old, and 20 days later found his body in the River Thames.

Documents show that the Grange Road Baptist Church fought for Ezedi to stay in the country in 2018 despite the fact that the asylum seeker had been convicted of sexual offenses eight months earlier.

Ezedi managed to avoid prison after pleading guilty to charges of sexual assault.

He was placed on the sex offender registry for 10 years and ordered to perform 200 hours of unpaid work when he received a suspended sentence in January 2018.
